ANÁLISE EPIDEMIOLÓGICA DAS INTERNAÇÕES POR HEPATITE B NO BRASIL, ENTRE 2019 E 2023

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Hepatitis B is a viral infection that mainly affects the liver and can progress to serious conditions such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV), it is transmitted through bodily fluids and is highly contagious. The infection can manifest itself acutely or chronically, with significant global prevalence, and represents a public health challenge, especially in relation to prevention and clinical management. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to quantify and analyze international transaction rates for hepatitis B in Brazil. METHODOLOGY: The retrospective study with a quantitative approach used data from the SUS Hospital Information System (SIH/SUS), provided by the SUS Information Technology Department (TABNET/DATASUS). The analysis covered hospitalizations for hepatitis B in Brazil from January 2019 to December 2023, using descriptive statistics and tabulation in Microsoft Excel 2016 and Microsoft Word 10 spreadsheets. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Between January 2019 and December 2023, 4,320 hospitalizations for hepatitis B were recorded. Hepatitis B in Brazil. The highest incidence occurred in the Northeast Region (1,820 hospitalizations), followed by the Southeast Region (1,254). The South Region received 479 hospitalizations, while the North and Central-West Regions recorded 334 and 433 hospitalizations, respectively. We observed a downward trend in hospitalizations throughout the period investigated. CONCLUSION: An analysis of hospitalizations for Hepatitis B between 2019 and 2023 demonstrates significant progress in control strategies, showing an overall reduction in hospitalizations. However, as regional disparities persist, there is a need for more specific and ongoing approaches. Maintaining vigilance, expanding access to care and adapting policies to local realities are essential for effective control of the disease in Brazil.
