Abstract

Introduction: Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by skin and mucous membrane fragility, with varying degrees of severity. This paper explores the cardiac complications in EB, their assessment through echocardiogram, and multidisciplinary management. Objective: To explore the role of echocardiogram in the evaluation and management of cardiac complications in EB patients. Methodology: An extensive search was conducted in databases like PubMed and Scopus, focusing on recent studies on EB and echocardiogram. Studies addressing cardiac complications and echocardiogram use in these patients were selected. Results and Discussion: Various studies have identified dilated cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias, and other cardiac anomalies in EB patients. The echocardiogram allows for early detection of these complications, critical for their management. Studies indicate diastolic and systolic dysfunctions, underscoring the importance of regular monitoring. Conclusion: EB presents significant cardiac complications. The echocardiogram is vital for detecting and managing these complications, improving prognosis and quality of life. A multidisciplinary approach and further research are necessary to optimize the management of these complications.
