Abstract
Introduction: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is a viral infection that can cause acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), which is sometimes called terminal HIV infection. Objective: to make a retrospective analytical description of the number of cases of deaths from AIDS in Amazonas in the last five years. Methodology: Retrospective, descriptive study with a quantitative approach of public data reported by Sinan-Net. Results: From 2019 to 2023, 190,060 cases of HIV infection were reported in Brazil. Of these, 24,667 were in the North region of the country, 7,533 of which were in Amazonas alone, with 606 hospitalizations due to AIDS, with an annual growth of 8.0%. Manaus, in the period investigated, had an average death rate of 6.9%, with an annual growth of 7.8%. The majority were between 20 and 39 years old. The main causes associated with deaths were respiratory failure (36.1%), pneumonia (27.0%), tuberculosis (19.6%), septicemia (18.6%), toxoplasmosis (12.2%), and pneumonia. Conclusion: Every manager needs to have the ability to produce and relate different information in a logical way. In other words, to analyze the complete contexts to make the right decisions.
