Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To describe the importance of exclusive lactation in the prevention of breast cancer. METHOD: The research is an integrative review, carried out based on the following guiding question: How important is exclusive lactation in the prevention of breast cancer? The PICO strategy was used to ask this question, in which “p” population: Women, “I” interest: Assessment of the importance of breastfeeding in relation to breast cancer, and “C” and “O” context: Description of importance of breastfeeding in relation to breast cancer. An advanced search was used through the Virtual Health Library (VHL), crossing the descriptors using the Boolean operators “AND” and “OR”. RESULTS: Through advanced research, 187 articles were obtained, among these articles, 5 of them make up this research, which resulted in two categories, namely: The importance of breastfeeding in preventing breast cancer; and risk factors for breast cancer and benefits of breastfeeding. CONCLUSION: Professional support during breastfeeding and pregnancy is important, to welcome and raise awareness among families and women who have recently given birth about the importance of exclusive lactation, resolving doubts and emphasizing the prevention of breast cancer.
