Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, has introduced a new dimension of risk for cancer patients, especially those with gynecological malignancies such as ovarian cancer. This study aims to evaluate, through an integrative review, the impact of COVID-19 infection on the development and prognosis of ovarian cancer. The research was conducted in August 2024 using the PubMed and LILACS databases with specific descriptors. Inclusion criteria included free full-texts, randomized clinical trials, reviews, and systematic reviews published in the last five years, resulting in the selection of six relevant articles. The results indicate a potential relationship between COVID-19 infection and an increased risk of thromboembolic complications in ovarian cancer patients, although without direct evidence of a causal relationship in increased oncological risk. The discussion of the results emphasizes the need for reinforced protective measures and adjustments in treatment protocols for cancer patients during pandemics. The conclusion highlights that, although a direct causal relationship between COVID-19 infection and increased ovarian cancer risk has not been identified, the pandemic has exacerbated existing challenges for cancer patients, underscoring the need for further research to fully understand these complex interactions.
