Abstract
This is an integrative review of the literature in order to research the influence of nutrition on polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), aiming to understand how nutrition can contribute to the treatment of women with the syndrome. This study aimed to present the relationship between nutritional factors and clinical, biochemical and anthropometric parameters of PCOS. To this end, scientific articles published between 2012 and 2024 were evaluated. The research resulted in describing how PCOS affects the quality of life of women with the syndrome and how nutrition can help in treatment, without the use of drugs. , through adequate nutritional therapy (NT), taking into account individual nutritional needs. It was found that the adoption of a diet that helps in weight reduction, as well as glycemic control and cholesterol concentrations associated with micronutrient supplementation, such as vitamin D, omega-3, iron, chromium and calcium picolinate, promotes benefits in various PCOS parameters. It is therefore concluded that nutrition can contribute positively to the treatment of this syndrome. The nutritionist's role consists of planning, developing, carrying out and evaluating an appropriate NT for women with PCOS, aiming to improve the quality of life of this population.
