Abstract
Introduction: Exclusive Breastfeeding (EBF) prevents more than six million deaths of children under one year of age annually and about two million deaths can be avoided if BF is exclusive for up to six months and practiced universally. Objective: To understand educational practices in Exclusive Breastfeeding Health in a Neonatal ICU. Method: Integrative review of queries in the databases: BVS, PubMed, Medline and Lilacs in the period 2012 - 2022. Descriptors were used individually or combined. N=809 publications were rescued, after exhaustive reading of titles and abstracts, n=332 published complete articles on the subject and available free of charge were selected. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, n=120 studies were selected to be read in full. After these procedures, n=14 studies were selected with a focus on answering the guiding question, on the adequacy of the content used to support the structuring of this integrative review. Results: The performance of Health Education linked to Breastfeeding in the Neonatal ICU borders guidance on the management of breast milk, the performance of the milk bank in the ICU, the process of feeding premature infants with breast milk; promoting skin contact and breast sucking. Strengthens the transition from breastfeeding to breastfeeding and trains the support network and extra-hospital follow-up; prevention of the risks of abandoning EBF. It prepares the mother, the premature infant and their family for the hospital discharge process and provides guidance regarding the premature postpartum period; encourages the inclusion of parents, friends and family in the breastfeeding process; implements on the approach of pre-existing diseases, the impacts of COVID-19 and its risks related to mental disorders, as well as the development of the same for carrying out the AME. Conclusion: Health Education is an important tool for information, training, guidance, prevention and strengthening of bonds between mothers, babies, family members, health teams and institutions. It also articulates and transforms the entire support and follow-up network
