Abstract
Introduction: Infant mortality is a topic that causes several discussions and has a major impact on health in Brazil. It is noted that health professionals are key elements in the process of reducing the infant mortality rate. Objective: Analyze factors and strategies for reducing infant mortality in Brazil. Methodology: This is a descriptive, bibliographic research of the integrative review type with a qualitative approach. The articles were selected through the BIREME, LILACS and SciELO databases, where the selection of original articles were researched in 2022, related to the topic, in Portuguese, available free of charge and with a clear methodological outline. Results and discussion: The infant mortality rate (IMR) provides an estimate of the risk of dying that this population faces in the first year of life, being a sensitive indicator of living and health conditions. It is considered that the majority of child deaths result from preventable causes or causes that can be treated with economic measures. Conclusion: therefore, the knowledge acquired by professionals, through research and a humanized technique, has a significant impact on reducing child deaths in their first year of life
