Abstract

Objective: to evaluate a adherence to drugs, physical and nutritional treatment in elderly people with type 2 diabetes mellitus and associated variables. Methods: this is a cross-sectional study, with a sample obtained by convenience, since they need to meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the research. The study was carried out at the Nutrition/Diabetes Outpatient Clinic of the Núcleo de Atenção ao Idoso (NAI/UFPE), with patients seen regularly in the period 2011-2019. The sample consisted of the 147 elderly people with type 2 diabetes. Results: there was significant adherence to drug treatment, low to the meal plan and moderate in physical activity, being influenced by factors related to socioeconomic, geographic and educational limitations. Conclusion: despite the high adherence to drug treatment, it is important to emphasize that the parameters that are more related to changes in lifestyle have insuficient evidence in the literature that point to significant long-term adherence, agreeing with the findings found in the present study.
