Abstract
Increasing life expectancy and population aging are significant achievements, but also challenges for global society. Longevity is associated with an increase in Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), which have an impact on public health. In Brazil, NCDs are the main cause of deaths, representing a national epidemic, as they are associated with several risk factors, such as smoking and inadequate diet, and can thus reach alarming numbers with population growth, observing an exponential increase in these diseases in recent decades. Objective: The main objective of the study is to analyze mortality due to NCDs in individuals aged 30 to 69 years, highlighting the relevance of palliative care (PC) in this approach, to improve the quality of survival of patients. Method: An analytical epidemiological study was carried out, using data from DATASUS as a basis, which analyzed deaths caused by NCDs in individuals between 30 and 69 years old, categorized by sex, state and year of occurrence of death present in Brazil, in the period of 1990 to 2019. Results: There was an increase in age, especially from 30 to 69 years old, NCDs gained prominence in prevalence and established themselves as the most common cause of deaths. Notably, men and the Rio de Janeiro region have the highest mortality rates from these conditions. Discussion/conclusion: After analyzing the epidemiological data and comparing it with literature findings, it was clear that this discrepancy may be associated with socioeconomic variables, inequality in access to health services, lifestyle and other factors. Therefore, it is necessary to create specialized programs, projects and public policies in the field of health, based on PC and aimed at improving the quality of life of patients and their families in the face of serious, advanced or incurable diseases, with the aim of reducing the Brazilian morbidity and mortality rate.
