Abstract
This article aims to scan the current medical literature on the relationship between rhabdomyolysis and its renal complications, including mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment. This is an integrative review using the Virtual Health Library (VHL), LILACS and PubMed as a database over the last 10 years. It is concluded that the main complication of rhabdomyolysis is acute kidney injury (RAI), since the muscle components released into the bloodstream are nephrotoxic and treatment based on the conjugation of deferoxamine to adamantyl derivatives represents a promising approach to overcome the challenges associated with its intrinsic toxicity.
