Abstract

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common metabolic complication in pregnancy, requiring early identification and management to prevent complications. This study reviews diagnostic approaches, prevalence, prevention, lifestyle interventions, the use of molecular biomarkers, and the effectiveness of physical exercise in the management of GDM. The review reveals that although the prevalence of GDM is increasing, primarily due to obesity and sedentary lifestyles, preventive strategies and lifestyle interventions are essential for effective management of the condition. Research on molecular biomarkers provides new tools for early diagnosis and monitoring, while physical exercise, despite variations in outcomes, is generally safe and can improve glycemic control. It is concluded that an integrated approach is crucial to improve maternal and fetal outcomes.
