Abstract
Actually, with the sale by the pursuit of beauty and harmonious body, thousands of people look for every year of treatment options to correct the imperfections that judge or an apparent delay aging. Amid numerous alternatives can be found as solutions of treatments, such as botulinum toxin substances that despite their initial uses solely to give aesthetic purposes, their uses include much more than just soften facial expressions, also proved to be effective in other clinical or surgical specialties. In dentistry this toxin is used as a treatment for tension headache, gummy smile temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD), orofacial pain, bruxism, angular cheilitis, postoperative periodontal surgeries and implants, asymmetric smile, masseter hypertrophy, hemifacial spasm, asymmetrical smile and also in drooling. Observing the numerous treatment options and their outcomes, this study aims to review the literature in order to indicate the therapeutic uses of botulinum toxin in dentistry, in which it is possible to analyze high success rates in cases where the toxin was elected as a treatment option. Thus its use in patients with facial changes and those changes which are related to oral health becomes extremely viable, leaving the dentist to properly diagnose to identify the real needs of each patient in order to achieve excellence in the therapeutic action of botulinum toxin.
