Abstract

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by neural disorganization influenced by multiple genetic, environmental and immunological factors that play a role in its pathogenesis, resulting in impaired behavior such as deficiencies in social interaction, language, communication and In imaginative play, it involves a group of manifestations, such as metabolic abnormalities, intestinal inflammation, immune imbalance, symptoms related to the gastrointestinal system and behavioral problems. Nutritional intervention plays an extremely important role in treatment and evolution, being studied as an adjuvant agent in ASD therapy, due to cases with significant improvements and reduction in symptoms, reducing nutritional deficiencies and associated problems. This study sought to gather information about the relevance of nutritional strategies and nutritional education interventions in the development of children with tea, based on a literature review. A search was carried out for articles published between 2019 and 2024, in the PubMed and Scielo databases, using relevant search terms, such as autism, food selectivity and eating behavior. Studies that specifically addressed selective eating in children with ASD were included. Duplicate articles, articles that did not address the research topic, studies with non-representative samples or inadequate methods were excluded, leaving 11 articles used. It was observed that nutritional interventions through supplements with different nutrients, such as probiotics, omega 3, B vitamins, vitamin D, carnitine, folic acid and carnosine, were effective in reducing gastrointestinal symptoms in these children. The practice of nutritional education, for children, parents and professionals, is essential in the treatment of food selectivity presented by them and that correct nutritional and behavioral strategies contribute to better food choices, helping in a healthier development, highlighting nutritional education as important means of promoting health and improving the quality of life of children with ASD.
