Abstract
The term mental health refers to a state of well-being in which an individual is able to deal effectively with the pressures of life and contribute positively to their community. Anxiety is a key element in this context, especially in adolescence, where social factors and the use of social networks can play a significant role. Therefore, the objective was to evaluate the impact of social networks on adolescents' anxiety, analyzing their influences and biopsychosocial implications. An integrative systematic review was carried out with the following guiding question: does the use of social networks impact the lives of adolescents? Do these impacts influence anxiety levels? What are the biopsychosocial implications?” The articles were extracted from the U.S. National Library of Medicine and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences databases. The search strategy was based on the Health Sciences Descriptors and the combination with the Boolean operators AND and OR. was << anxiety AND "online social networks" OR "social network" AND teenager >>. The selection of materials was based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Initially, 707 articles were reached and, among them, 16 were selected. The results indicated that excessive use of media, the way it is used and dependence can trigger symptoms of anxiety, depression, sleep disorders and compromised physical health. While social media offers benefits and facilitates communication, the challenges associated with these impacts require further investigation and a cautious approach.
