Abstract

Introduction: Bariatric surgery, used in the treatment of morbid obesity, poses significant challenges for healthcare professionals, especially anesthesiologists, due to the physiological and metabolic complexities associated with obesity and the hemodynamic changes induced by the surgery. Objective: Review the evidence on optimal anesthetic strategies in patients undergoing bariatric surgery Methodology: An exhaustive search of scientific articles was carried out, prioritizing relevant clinical studies and systematic reviews published since 2018 in English and Spanish. Results: The results highlight the importance of adequate ventilation, the use of anesthetic agents that minimize complications and the consideration of associated comorbidities. Techniques such as balanced general anesthesia, TIVA and TAP are mentioned for postoperative pain management. Constant and careful monitoring is essential, as is long-term nutritional monitoring to prevent deficiencies and ensure adequate weight loss. Conclusion: Anesthetic management and nutritional monitoring in bariatric surgery are crucial aspects that must be addressed in a comprehensive and multidisciplinary manner to guarantee optimal results and improve the quality of life of obese patients.
