Abstract

It is extremely important that the keratinized mucosa is part of the peri-implant tissues. The absence of this tissue in a region is commonly resolved with free gingival graft surgery (EGL), the gold standard in the area of implant dentistry. The objective of this work was to describe this technique, through a case report. A patient undergoing rehabilitation treatment with a prosthesis on implants presented the need to perform free gingival graft surgery around the implants, corresponding to elements 45 and 46, after an unsatisfactory result in the increase in keratinized mucosa using the apically repositioned flap technique. After 120 days of carrying out the procedure, a satisfactory result was obtained with a gain of approximately 4 mm of tissue band. Given the clinical result obtained, based on evidence in the literature, it was possible to conclude that the free gingival graft technique is a great option for gaining keratinized tissue, in the peri-implant regions, in addition to this work suggesting a critical analysis on which technique to opt for, considering success rates and predictability.
