Abstract

Daytime sleepiness in university students, particularly in demanding courses like Medicine, poses a significant concern impacting academic performance and quality of life. This study focuses on evaluating daytime sleepiness in medical students from Zona da Mata Mineira, using the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS). The ESS, comprising eight items, proves to be a valuable tool in identifying excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS). Results indicate that nearly half of the sample exhibits EDS, associated with demographic factors such as gender and age. Early detection through ESS allows guiding students towards appropriate interventions, promoting improvements in quality of life and academic performance.
