Abstract

Introduction: Implantology has been increasingly requested among edentulous patients who want to reestablish their masticatory function. However, in some cases, the bone deficit in the posterior maxilla due to pneumatization of the maxillary sinus makes the area unsuitable for receiving implants.

Objectives: This study aims to outline the main aspects related to the practice of modalities of maxillary sinus lift surgery. Addressing the surgical techniques, the anatomy of the maxillary sinus, specific indications and contraindications, as well as the risks and complications of the surgical procedure addressed, aiming to offer a better theoretical basis for the clinical practice of the implant dentist.

Methodology: In this research we used the online search engines: Pubmed, Scielo, Science Direct, and Google Scholar, performing the search through the keywords: “Maxillary sinus elevation”, “Maxillary sinus elevation techniques” , "Maxillary Sinus Anatomy", "Densah Burs Technique", "Summers Technique", "Meisinger Technique" and "Intralift Technique", which were then combined in multiple and successive ways.

Conclusion: Maxillary sinus elevation is a successful and effective proposal, with a high success rate for increased alveolar bone deficiency in the posterior maxilla.
