Abstract

Ulcerative Colitis is a form of IBD that causes chronic inflammation in the intestine, the exact origin of which is not fully understood. The interaction between mechanisms in the mucosal barrier, genetic predisposition, and environmental factors triggers an uncontrolled immune response. Symptoms include diarrhea, rectal bleeding, mucus in the stool, and abdominal pain. The objective of this study is to evaluate and describe the mortality profile of patients with Ulcerative Colitis from 2013 to 2022. It is a quantitative and retrospective study using data extracted from the Mortality Information System (SIM) of DATASUS. Focusing on deaths from Ulcerative Colitis complications between 2013 and 2022, variables such as region, age, sex, education, ethnicity/race, and marital status were analyzed. Descriptive statistical analysis was conducted in Microsoft Excel 2019. This research outlined a morbidity profile among patients affected by Ulcerative Colitis, identifying that the occurrence of deaths is more pronounced among white women over 60 years old, married, with 1 to 11 years of education, and residing in the southeast region.
