Abstract
Assess, according to studies conducted through a literature review, the potential correlation between Helicobacter pylori infection and gastric carcinoma. The materials collected through the literature review used the keywords cancer, gastric, and H. pylori, with reference to the databases BVS, SciELO, PubMed, EbscoHost, and Google Scholar. Out of 62 selected articles, 32 were eliminated based on exclusion criteria, resulting in a total of 30 articles that met the inclusion criteria. Since 1979, when Helicobacter pylori was initially described, relationships with its influence on the development and complication of gastric cancer have been established. However, within this context, there are other extrinsic factors that influence the progression of this disease, such as diet, smoking, ethanol consumption, among others. The action of the gram-negative bacterium, while present in the stomach microbiota, operates negatively as a trigger for gastric carcinoma. Considering that H. pylori eradication has a favorable prognosis regarding the diagnosis of this carcinoma, this literature review aims to expose this relationship and its precursors for the risk of disease development.
