As infecções respiratórias são uma das principais causas de morbidade e mortalidade infantil, especialmente em crianças menores de dois anos. O aleitamento materno desempenha um papel essencial na prevenção dessas infecções, fornecendo componentes bioativos que fortalecem o sistema imunológico infantil. Este estudo realizou uma revisão narrativa de 19 artigos publicados entre 2010 e 2024, analisando a relação entre o aleitamento materno e a redução da incidência e gravidade de infecções respiratórias em crianças. Os resultados evidenciam que a amamentação exclusiva nos primeiros seis meses de vida reduz significativamente o risco de infecções, como bronquiolite, pneumonia e infecções por vírus respiratórios, incluindo o SARS-CoV-2. Além disso, o leite materno demonstrou ser uma fonte segura de proteção passiva durante a pandemia de COVID-19. Apesar dos benefícios, barreiras culturais e estruturais ainda comprometem a prática do aleitamento materno. Políticas públicas e campanhas de conscientização são fundamentais para superar esses desafios e ampliar os benefícios da amamentação para a saúde infantil.
