Resumo

A relação entre a Doença de Alzheimer (DA) e os distúrbios do sono é complexa e bidirecional. Estudos demonstram que a acumulação de proteínas beta-amiloide e tau nas áreas cerebrais responsáveis pelo controle do sono está diretamente associada a distúrbios como sono fragmentado, redução do sono REM e aumento da latência do sono. Além disso, distúrbios do sono, como a apneia obstrutiva do sono, têm sido identificados como agravantes na progressão da DA, devido à hipoxemia intermitente, que acelera a deposição dessas proteínas e agrava o declínio cognitivo. A neuroinflamação também se destaca como um fator importante, pois distúrbios do sono podem desencadear uma resposta inflamatória cerebral, acelerando a neurodegeneração. As evidências sugerem que a modulação adequada do sono pode retardar o avanço da doença, melhorando a qualidade de vida dos pacientes. Este estudo revisa as principais interações entre a DA e os distúrbios do sono, discutindo suas implicações clínicas e sugerindo abordagens terapêuticas integradas.
