Objective: This study aims to clarify the importance of the assistance offered by the nursing team to newborns hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Focusing on technical-scientific quality, the general objective is to ensure safe procedures, prioritizing the comfort of the newborn (NB). Furthermore, we seek to highlight the role of the nursing team in health education for parents, promoting a humanized approach and integrating them in decisions related to the newborn, preparing them for post-hospital discharge care. Methods: Bibliographic research was adopted as a methodology, with the analysis of records published in the last 10 years. It is noteworthy that the nursing team, as directly responsible for patient care in the NICU, plays a crucial role in guaranteeing the technical-scientific quality of the procedures performed, ensuring the comfort of the NB. Furthermore, the approach includes the educational, welcoming and inclusive role of the nursing team in relation to parents, involving them in decisions and preparing them for care after hospital discharge. Results: The results point to the need for a quality technical-scientific approach on the part of the nursing team in the NICU, ensuring safe procedures and the comfort of the newborn during hospitalization. Health education aimed at parents stands out as an essential component, promoting a humanized and inclusive relationship, preparing them for challenges after hospital discharge. Conclusion: In conclusion, the assistance provided by the nursing team in the NICU plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of hospitalized newborns. The emphasis on technical-scientific quality, the comfort of the newborn and the inclusion of parents in decisions related to the newborn reflects a comprehensive and humanized approach. Preparing parents for post-hospital care is crucial, consolidating the importance of the nursing team's role in this delicate and technologically advanced context.
