Abstract
Seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp (SCD) is a condition that manifests itself with peeling, redness, itching and greasy crusting. Although it is not serious, it can affect the quality of life. Objective: Examine recent studies on the diagnosis and treatment of CCD. Methodology: Articles such as observational studies, review studies, clinical trials and comparative studies were reviewed, and the results were summarized through a narrative review. Results: The diagnosis is based on clinical evaluation, without the need for specific laboratory tests, although in atypical cases additional tests may be required. The most common treatment is shampoo with 2% ketoconazole, which can be alternated with others containing salicylic acid or zinc pythyrionate. In stubborn cases, calcineurin inhibitors such as tacrolimus 0.1% or 0.03% can be used to avoid corticosteroid abuse. In addition, there are alternative therapies such as the use of essential oils, such as tea tree or lavender, which have complementary properties. These options can provide relief to those suffering from CCD.
