O odontoma composto é uma lesão odontogênica benigna caracterizada por pequenos dentículos semelhantes a dentes normais, resultantes de uma interrupção no desenvolvimento típico dos tecidos dentários durante a formação embrionária. Em geral, assintomáticos, os odontomas são comumente identificados acidentalmente em exames radiográficos de rotina, sendo mais prevalentes na região anterior da maxila. A remoção cirúrgica é a abordagem terapêutica padrão para prevenir complicações, como impactação dentária e alterações estéticas, com uma boa perspectiva de sucesso e ocorrência rara de recorrências após a intervenção. Originando-se de células do epitélio dental, mesênquima e papila dentária durante o desenvolvimento fetal, sua classificação em composto e complexo permite distinguir diferentes apresentações clínicas. O avanço nas opções terapêuticas ao longo do tempo reflete os progressos na compreensão e manejo dessa condição odontológica, com melhorias em técnicas cirúrgicas e pesquisas genéticas e moleculares contribuindo para um entendimento mais profundo. A adoção de cuidados pré e pós-operatórios adequados é fundamental para uma recuperação satisfatória após a excisão do odontoma, envolvendo uma avaliação precisa da localização da lesão, uso apropriado de anestesia, execução cuidadosa da técnica cirúrgica e acompanhamento regular para monitorar a cicatrização e identificar possíveis complicações. É imprescindível que o tratamento do odontoma composto seja conduzido por profissionais capacitados, visando garantir resultados bem-sucedidos e minimizar riscos de complicações.
